Winsor Lewis

Winsor Lewis has worked in the mining industry throughout the world for almost forty years and has been an associate of Core Consultants since 2012. He began his career in the UK and for ten years worked as a project engineer carrying out research into the ventilation of coal mining machines and mine ventilation in general.
After ten years, he began work as an auditor for a mining region comprising over twenty opencast and deep mines, and employing some 19,000 people.
A fluent Russian speaker, for the last thirteen years he has been working on a variety of metalliferrous, precious metal and coal projects (both mining and processing) in Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Czech Republic, Sardinia, Montenegro, UK, Pakistan, South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, China and Botswana.
These projects have ranged from project costing and business planning for green field sites to CPRs and MERs for major mining companies producing over 100 million tonnes per annum. He has also worked in Romania, Kosovo, Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan and Germany.
Winsor Lewis graduated with a degree in Physics and completed ten years as a research scientist and project leader in the British Coal industry. Subsequently, he qualified as a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in 1997.
After three years as an auditor, Winsor became a regional director for a job creation agency which operated an investment scheme for small businesses, built job creation infrastructure and a grant scheme for local authorities to develop workshops. In the last ten years, he has worked mostly in Russia, Ukraine and south east Europe on strategy development, development, training and operation of microcredit funds and financial assessments of major investment projects.
In this latest work, he has produced financial models for power plants and associated mines as part of applications for funding and/or a valuation for sale. In Serbia, he led a fund-raising team to cover the costs of mine closures and the associated job creation activity, having designed and costed the plans.
